About Therapy

Finding what's right for you

As a licensed psychologist, I am an advocate for mental health in its many forms. So let's talk about the different forms of mental health work you can do:

  • Therapy is a personal and important decision. There are many great therapists out there and I encourage you to seek out what's right for you. Always remember: there is no wrong reason for going to therapy. If you don't know where to start, you might want to take a look at my post Finding the Right Therapist.

  • Books and classes that provide a self-help style and offer useful skills from mental health professionals are also a great way to learn things that are directed to you in specific areas. These can be great if you cannot afford or are not ready for therapy, or if you want to complement it.

  • Blog posts and/or social media pages about mental health are becoming more available each day. Find a therapist you like, and read their posts to gain a better understanding of mental health and skills that might be right for you. Make sure that the information you are consuming comes from a mental health professional. While other people might come from a good place, mental health professionals have the tools to deliver evidence-based information and avoid offering material that could be triggers to some. This option comes at no expense to you and can be helpful alongside therapy, or if you are not receiving therapy at the moment.

Safety, empathy, compassion and understanding are values that guide my work, which is why you'll find many of the material provided in this page directed towards this path.

No matter what type of approach you take towards a better mental health, always strive to become the best version of yourself according to your own standards and to find meaning and joy in the life you lead.
